DISTRICT PROFILE
INTRODUCTION
Sidhi district is known as Siddha Bhumi since ancient times, it is situated in the north eastern part of Madhya Pradesh. Sidhi is the land of Beerval, the most genius personality of Indian history. Detail information about the district is shown as follows:
Geographical Background:
Location of the district extends between the 23047 to 24042 northern latitude and 81018 to 82042 eastern longitude. The district is surrounded by the Sonbhadra as well as Mirzapur district of Utter Pradesh in the east and Korea district of newly formed state of Chattisgarh. Shahdol, Satna and Rewa districts of MP also adjoin it on the south, south west, west and north directions, respectively. Total land area of the district is 10,532 sq.km.

Climate:
The climate of the district doesn't differ from the state of Madhya Pradesh. May and June are the hottest months with the maximum temperature going up to 450C whereas, December and January are the coldest months with the minimum temperature some time going even as low as 50C. The annual rainfall in the district is 950mm to 1250mm.
Rivers, Mountains and Soil:
The longest river of the district is Son. Other rivers of the district like Gopad and Banas are the tributaries of Son river which further joins the river Ganga near Sonpur in the state of Bihar. Rivers like Son, Gopad and Banas are perennial rivers while most of the other rivers, are seasonal rivers in which there is scarcity of water through out the year except for in the rainy season. Kaimoer and Vindhychal are the mountain ranges whose elevations can be seen, through out the district.
As per whole area of the district is concerned, there is a mingling of plains, hills and rocky terrain. The hilly area is less fertile while the plains are quite fertile.
Forest:
The district includes deciduous and scruple types of forest area, which covers 9.78%. sq. kms. Due to less density of forest, large animals have become scare now. Whereas it is reported in the forest annals that a few decades back the forest were full of flora and fauna. But still a large number of black bucks are abundant in Bagdara Sanctuary and is the center of attraction.
Social Background:
Sidhi district is an important part of Baghel Khand region. Baghel Khandi dialect is spoken in the district.
Rural social setup is dominated by the existence of scheduled tribes like Kol, Gond, Pomika, Kairwar, Baiga, etc. Their main occupation is agriculture and forest produce. They being poor also believe in Magic, Tona-Totaka etc. As per census 2001 total population of tribal is 547375. The tribes are quite superstitious and believe that these practices help in their well being.
Status of women in the society:
Some social evils like customs of Parada are widely prevalent because of poverty and the lack of education and poverty. Most of the women populations are either house wives or field workers.
Economic background:
Most of the families belonging to the district earn their livelihood through agriculture or working as laborers. The district lacks in industrial growth that is why the seasonal migration has become their fate. A large number of families are living below the poverty line.
Demographic Profile:
Population of the district according to the census 2001 is 18,31,152. The table further shows the area wise population in urban and rural area of the district. Deosar, Kusmi, Majhauli and Sihawal block has no any township. Out of total population of the district, the percentage of scheduled caste is 11.9 and the percentage of scheduled tribe is 29.9.
