Introduction-

National development is directly related to education of the citizens of the country. Providing educational access to all children in the age group 6-14 years is a constitutional obligation and challenge to control as well as state governments. The national policy on education (1986 and POA, 1992) laid emphasis not only on achieving universalization of elementary education but also in ensuring essential of quality .The Daker Report framework of action ‘ also emphasized on the quality of education which depends performance of individual Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) is aimed at fulfilling twin objectives of universalization of elementary education The SSA is an effort to provide useful and relevant elementary education for all in the 6 to 14age group by 2010 and also to bridge social ,regional and gender gaps with the active participation of the community .
Though the physical facilities for universaligation of elementary education exist to a very large extend in all the states ,the efforts and initiatives are still required to improve the quality of education at elementary level .The launch of Edusat on September 20,2004 ,a dedicated satellite for education and development by the department of space , GOI has raised the hope that extensive reach of satellite communication of ensure universal access to quality education at the primary / elementary level . Optiomal utilization of its capabilities to facilitate and accelerate the pace of progress in all sectors of education system is a challenge .

EDUSAT- THE PILOT PROJECT SIDHI

Edusate was launched on sept.20,2004 by ISRO to provide quality education at elementary stage .IGNU has initiated a pilot project called Rajiv Gandhi project for edusat –supported Elementary Education (RGPEEE) in callaboration with MHRD and ISRO .The project covers four Hindi speaking states namely, Madhya pardesh ,Chhattisgarh ,Uttar Pardesh and Bihar ,In each state one district has been selected for implementation of the project sidhi district of madhya pardesh has been selected as the focus of the project in which 700 learning centers of 8 blocks (Sidhi, RampurNaikin, Kushmi , Sihawal ,Majholi, Deosar ,Chitrangi and Singrauli) have been equipped with Receive only terminals (ROTs). The project was inaugurated by hon’ble minister of HRD ,Shri Arjun singh on December 17,2005 from IGNOU studio , New Delhi .On the same day edusat studio located at PSM ,Jabalpur and SIT at DIET , sidhi have also inaugurated 700 ROTs and 9 SITs were installed in sidhi district. A studio at Prantiya Shiksha Mahavidyalay (PSM) ,Jabalpur was constructed as the it teaching end for the project. .Transmission (tele-teaching ) has been started from December 19,2005 for primary classes children from Monday to Friday and for teachers on every Saturday . Teachers (714) of selected schools were oriented dewing seven phases of orientation programme for sidhi .feed back reports of orientation programme have been prepared . A group of 50 teachers were selected for intensive training in teaching (live ) thrugh Edusate. 42 teacher out of 50 attend the training working organized during December 9-13, 2005 at EMPC ,IGNOU. Teachers were trained in development of e-content and its presentation through television .Since December 19,2005 tele-teaching is being done from 11:00 a.m. to 01:00p.m. (repeated from 02:00p.m.to 04:00p.m.) from the teaching end .Jabalpur. Acadmic calendar of primary classes for the year 2005-06 was taken into consideration while preparing schedule of transmission for school in sidhi .Elementary school teachers from Sidhi and Jabalpur district were invited to teach the hard spots identified by the state . Besides teaching primary classes one–hour transmission on Saturday is being used for teacher education . Implementation of the project is being closely monitored by DEP-SSA .DEP-SSA has already designed a tool for collection for of data from teachers ,BRCs/CRCs, tele teacher ,parents and students during December ,20-21 ,2005 .

The objectives of the pilot project –
  • Ensuring quality content through online and variety of access devices in school .
  • Enriching exiting curriculum and pedagogy at different levels by employing all the technologies available , through the Edusat including virtual classrooms ,video on demand etc. 
  • promoting a shift from current passive learning to active learning .
  • Support to compulsory education for all children in the age group of 6-14 years. In – service and recurtment training to school teachers for continuous up gradation of their knowledge and skills 
  • Creating an enabling environment for the optiomal use of the Edusat in providing teacher training .
  • Training of teachers and master trainers in handling of IT- supported and ICT–enabled education through Edusat .

Head start –

As per information Technology policy of the state, computer enabled education is a major priority of the district. A computer enabled programme to school children called “Head Start” The programme uses computer on a teaching learning tool at elementary education level .The main intention in to bridge the digital divide between the urban and rural student population in terms of access to modern technology aids in education .The Head start is a move from computer education to computer enabled education besides computer based self learning .The programme becoming on exiting example of collaborative learning and greater socialization process .Head start also aims to develop computer enabled self learning approach in peer situation. Studies conducted on head start indicate substantial improvement in student achievements and also increase in the number of first division pass out.


Head start is excellent educational programme of Madhya pradesh Government in which students and teachers becomes able through information and communication technology. DIET and Zila Shiksha Kendra Sidhi is using Head start centers to develope Interactive multimedia rich lessons for the suitable learning process in classrooms. Head start is a center where 3 computers, 1 printer, and 3 U.P.S. have been provided to a Head start center. The number of the Head start centers in the district are given below in the table .

Head Start is a place where the student and teacher increases his knowledge, to develop the tendency of seft learning process and collaborative, to develop the condition of learning in which the learning is pleasure, interesting and no tension So for. Head Start has been envisioned as a computer ennobled education programme. Looking into the modern trend of introducing computer literacy from the beginning, an effort will be made to introduce computer as on additional internal optional subject.

Satellite communication –

Teleconferencing means two or more groups interact with each other through satellite. Teleconferencing is a regular feature for direct interaction with Rajya Shiksha Kendra Bhopal. Every month at least two or there teleconferencing. Programmes are held at DIET Sidhi through Rajya Shiksha Kendra Bhopal .The DRS in extended C.Band are located in the DIET Sidhi for the purpose of teachers training, teachers educators training and etc.

The Rajya Shiksha Mission has Endeavored to Use I.C.T. for in proving the quality of teaching Clearing process . This ahs been through its radio ,inalouded programme I.R.I. As un Know information technology has major impact on teaching learning process .Radio is on important olevice which is playing a major role min learning environment.
The interactive Radio Instruction in avulsed education in being started in the school of the district .Where a large number of children are in low achievement .English in for level first in teaching broad casted since Sept. 5, 2007 .The lime of broad casting is 12 to 12:30pm .The children and teachers of district Sidhi is training programme leuth great interest. Teacher already have been trained how to use programme to improve the knowledge of the children and make learning process more interactive and self learning .
